When I was little and would whine (just kidding, I’m awesome and have never whined a day in my life—LIES), my siblings would sing to me “You don’t always get what you want. You don’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you neeeeed!” They got very into it, made it very theatrical, very enthusiastic, very loud, very annoying. But as aggravating as I found this song during my youth, I keep having realizations of just how true it is.
But sometimes, whining can help you out.
I am the new morning dj for the radio station here on the Rosebud reservation. BAM! This means I get to be at work at 5:30 am and play a dash of country music between all the ads and announcements I’m required to play from 6 am to 9:30 am. AND THEN, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, I drive right over to Rosebud for religious education classes. Sounds like a lot of work, but this just means less time to sit around contemplating my navel. What is that? Lint? A receipt for otter pops? A nickel? When’s the last time I cleaned this thing out?
PS. I now wake up at 5 AM during the weekdays (Including today. WOOHOO!). So if you’re awake at 3 am in California because you’ve been partying or you know, nursing your baby, you can call or text me because I will be AWAKE and annoyingly chipper!
